Scott Alpizar, PhD
Dr. Scott Alpizar is an academic turned investment professional and advisor for early-stage biotechnology and life science companies. He is a PhD-level scientist who trained in neurobiology at Dartmouth College. After graduate school, he spent nearly five years at Foundation Venture Capital Group (the venture arm of the New Jersey Health Foundation) identifying cutting-edge, health-related technologies from universities that have commercial potential, evaluating those technologies from a scientific and business perspective, and negotiating/closing investments. He also played a key role in providing ‘operational capital’ to his portfolio companies, supporting their strategic planning and development to ensure they reached the next stage of success. He's led multiple investments deals and leveraged millions of dollars in follow-on non-dilutive and venture capital investment into his portfolio companies. Scott has also participated in multiple professional training and certification programs designed for investors, including the Material Change Institute’s Fellowship Program (Class III), Venture Capital University Online (Cohort 6), and the Demystifying VC Term Sheets & Cap Tables course offered by Wall Street Prep. He has been a Guest Mentor for Creative Destruction Labs, a Workshop Expert for multiple Nucleate sites, and has served as an Industry Mentor/Expert on multiple regional and national NSF and NIH I-Corps teams. He’s now coaching academic researchers and early-stage startup founders more broadly through his own consultancy, Emerging Innovations Consulting.
